Los Angeles, CA – June 2011
The Camp Summer Plus program (funded by the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative) was inaugurated in Jamaica in June 2011, organized by the Jamaica Ministry of Education and USAID under the auspices of Juárez & Associates ’ Jamaica Basic Education Project. Modeled after Earl Phalen’s Summer Advantage program, the Camp was launched at the Shortwood Teacher’s College with the theme “Up You Mighty Race.”
The program, which the Ministry intends to continue in 2012, seeks to harness the possibilities of summer learning and to raise the educational achievement levels of disadvantaged students by providing a rigorous academic program and an array of enrichment activities during the summer holidays.
