With great sadness, we announce the death of J&A’s longtime associate, colleague, consultant, mentor and friend, Dr. John Donald McNeil on April 9, 2021. He was 101 years young, still active until the end. It has been an honor and a pleasure working with him over the many years of our collaboration.
Dr. McNeil was an educator with extensive experience in the areas of curriculum and teacher education. He was Professor Emeritus in the Graduate School of Education at UCLA. He served as an international consultant in curriculum and the development of instructional materials all over the world and wrote more than 40 textbooks. Over the years, there were four foci to his work: curriculum, the study and improvement of teaching, the teaching of reading, and the development of instructional materials to meet specific needs. Work within each was conducted both at the practice/application level and at the theory/research level.
